For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, connection to culture, family and our community is the foundation of our very beings.
Our kin connections are a fundamental element of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander social and emotional wellbeing. Whether you are child, young person or an adult, no matter our culture, our walks of life, where we come from or journey to where we are going, makes us who we are.
For Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people our social and emotional wellbeing is based on our connection to family, community, country and to culture. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people’s descent is about belonging to a people and a place which involves our complex kinship networks; that is, relationships and obligations to other people and a place or ‘country. It's important to understand, the notion of ‘country’ is fundamental to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples identity. Demonstrating where one is from, what ‘country’ and group/people we belong to, is critical to any indigenous person in their self-identity and when introducing oneself.
Therefore the overall goal is to build on and strengthen the connections of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people and families to their culture, community, country and family and contribute to positive outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
By engaging our services we hope to provide every individual a space to grow into their knowledge of who they are, where they come from, where they belong and where they are going.
